Herlaugshaugen is one of the largest burial mounds in the Nordic countries and an important Fotefar in Trøndelag. The cultural monument bears witness to power, faith and social structures in the Iron Age, and has long been an important symbol of the area's historical significance. A world heritage status will provide increased international attention and strengthen the work with protection, research and dissemination. The recommendation from the Norwegian Ministry of Cultural Heritage marks an important step in the process, and underlines the unique value of Herlaugshaugen in a global context.
