During the 19th century, there was a significant influx of settlers from Eastern Norway to Bardu and Målselv. Strømsør mountain farm, established in 1839, is one of the first farms to be cleared in Østerdalen in Bardu.

Opening hours
Strømsør is open to group visits and school classes between May and September; please contact Midt-Troms Museum at 478 34 500 or post@mtmu.no. You can visit the site on your own, but the buildings are closed to the public.

How to get here
From Setermoen town centre, follow County Road 8470 (FV 8470) for approximately 25 km along Østerdalen to Straumsøra. The old farm track is marked with "Fotefar" trail markers.

The mountain farm is idyllically situated at an elevation of 300 meters in an area offering excellent hunting and fishing opportunities. The farmyard comprises several large, impressive timber buildings. Place names and traditions from Eastern Norway live on in the dialect and customs of Bardu.
The Midt-Troms Museum operates the site, and the old access path has been cleared and marked—a hike of approximately 10 km through beautiful terrain.
