The trail up to Partisankløfta is about half a kilometer long, and is at times hilly and slightly steep terrain. The trail to the Loe cabin is easy to walk.
Partisan activities in Berlevåg
In Løkvika, you can follow a 500-meter-long marked trail that leads up to the Partisankløfta. In this gorge in the mountains above Løkvika, a partisan group of three hid in the winter of 1942/43. The partisans carried out espionage for the Soviet Union in northern Norway during World War II. Equipped with good binoculars, they carefully monitored German shipping day and night. They sent daily radio messages to Murmansk, which contributed to the sinking of German ships.
The partisan group got in touch with civilians Dagny and Osvald Loe, after the Loe family had moved from Berlevåg to the cabin in Løkvika. The couple actively participated in the resistance movement in Finnmark, and assisted the partisans with information about the occupiers and with clothing and food.
Through "Operation Mitternachtsonne", the Germans were able to expose the partisans' activities. The partisans and many of their civilian helpers in East Finnmark were punished with death or prison camps. Osvald Loe was executed in Kirkenes. Dagny had to leave all her children behind except for her newborn daughter, and was sent for Gestapo interrogation in Kirkenes. Her daughter died on the boat trip. In 1943, Dagny was sentenced to 15 years in prison in a prison camp. She was sent to Germany and then to Poland, and was released at the end of the war.
